Batleyka is folk Belarusian theater

Fairy tale began in Belarus on the eve of Christmas. This time is called Kalyada. They last from December 25 to January 7.A hundred years ago, in cities and villages, children gathered at a puppet theater. This theater is called Batleika (from the name of the biblical city of Bethlehem). These theaters were in many European countries. Poles called theater shopka and Ukrainians called it a vertep.
How did batleika look? Oh, it was very simple. This was a box with two doors on the front. Inside the box could separate by shelves for 2 or 3 floors.

Winter came to Halch

I told you that the teachers had to walk through the village and look at the condition of houses and fences. I took a lot of pictures in those days. And I do not want to bore you with my problems.

These days the weather was cloudy, the sky was covered with leaden clouds. Snow has been falling for several days.

In the pictures you will see will see ordinary Belarusian village. There are so many such settlements in Eastern Europe and Russia. I wanted to show how looks Belarusian nature in winter. It is not always pretty, but always cold. ))

All photos were taken immediately after the long snow. On the way, it was very hard to walk because the snow was soft. If the car drove down the street, the road became very slippery. In one photo, you will see the teachers (they accidentally hit the picture, I did not photograph them.) All photos were taken on one street - School Street in the  Halch village (we photographed different houses and fences on this street).

Where does the Belarusian Father Frost live?

Everyone knows that Santa Claus lives in Lapland. Belarus has its own Santa Claus (Father Frost). He lives in Belovezhskaya Pushcha.
Residence of  Father Frost  is located on 15 hectares. At the entrance you will see a large wooden gate.

What are teachers doing in Belarus?

Do you think that the Belarusian teachers teach children? No. To be honest, not only  teach.

Last week, teachers from a nearby school in heavy snow left on the street to paint the fence. Workers were painting the fence, right? But you have to pay money to the workers. This was done by the teacher. Without money. And that's not all: the fence had to be cleaned of snow, wipe, dry and paint.

We felt sorry for colleagues. We did not know what the next day will be in a similar position. We had to go through the streets of the village and find out:
1. how many fences in the village must be painted.
2. how much light there is in the country and how much foraney works.
3. How many people live in your home and how many of them need help (such as chop wood, bring water).

But this is not a job of a teacher. My job is to teach children, is not it? But bosses think otherwise. They demanded in 2 days again through the streets of the village and take a camera. We had to give the boss pictures (because the boss did not believe us. He said that we will not go). I'm went to the homes and left a note at the gate of the fence (the note said that the owners have to paint the fence and clear the snow from the street). I was knee-deep in snow, I'm frozen. I took a lot of pictures, and  we sent them to the boss.

After two days boss said that teachers should take tape measure and measure how many fences in the village have painted, how many fences are needed to change. Once again, it is necessary to do a lot of photos. Just imagine: delicate young woman should measure the fences!!!

Teacher in Belarus is being powerless. Many people dismissed from school. But if all the teachers are gone, who will teach the children?

Maybe I a masochist, but I love children. And I'll stay.

Postscript: Recently, President of Belarus signed Decree No. 9. Now people can not quit work. The company concludes a contract with an employee for a maximum period and after this contracts are renegotiated over a maximum period again. And again. And again.
However, this decree applies only to the woodworking industry. But who knows what will change in the future?

Winter in Belarus: snowstorms, accidents

December 2012 is very snowy. Forecasters say it's the first time in 15 years. December 12 blizzard covered the southern and south-eastern parts of the country. Big city Mazyr remained without electricity and water. To this day there is no electricity in 15 locations.

I live in Gomel, blizzard has not affected my city. But I went to work on December 11 very slowly. I saw a big red car in a ditch. I saw the accident cars and trolley. They met on a slippery road. I went out of the car and the Mazda sped toward me. It is not caught me and the car, it turned across the road. It was only Tuesday morning.

Today, many trains could not leave Minsk because snowstorm snowed tracks. I called my mother, she lives in the south-west of Belarus. She said the heavy snow falls in the city and do not drive cars on the roads. I know that various European countries hit by heavy snowfalls. Belarus is also a part of them.

Giant inscriptions in Belarus

Many countries are proud of the creation of various giant signs. Many people heard about signs on the fields that were left by aliens). Many people have seen a huge name "Hamad" in the desert.

In Belarus there are giant inscriptions. They date back to the Soviet era, and naturally associated with communism. So the word "Lenin" can be seen from the plane in the Ivanovo region. It consists of birch trees planted and specifically expressed in the pine forest. These letters are best seen during the autumn. Yellow word "Lenin" on a dark green background can be seen from afar.

In the northern part of Belarus a young city Navapolatsk is located. He recently celebrated his 50th birthday. In 1987, construction workers built a residential complex in the form of some letters of the alphabet. If you look at Navapolatsk from space, in the southern part of the city you will see a three letters "C". These are the three initial letters of the words "Soviet Union" ("СССР"). Residents of Navapolatsk say the letter "P" builders have not built because the Soviet Union was collapsed. I do not know whether it's true or not, but the three letters "С" and you can see for yourself.

Michał Kleofas Ogiński

Poland and Belarus are equally proud of the fact that this man was born and lived in our lands.

Michał Ogiński lived in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. He became famous in the country and far beyond its borders.Belarus and Poland were one state at a time. It was called the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. It was a confederation of the Polish state and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. In 1772, three neighboring countries have decided to divide the land of Poland and pick them yourself. In 1793, there was a second division of the state and in 1794, Tadeusz Kosciuszko uprising began.

Michał Ogiński participated in this rebellion. Prior to that, he was state treasurer of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. As a patriot of his country, he could not stay on the sidelines. After the defeat of the uprising Michał Kleofas
Ogiński wrote a very beautiful Polonaise in A Minor, which is famous in Poland and Belarus and other countries. It is called "Farewell to the Fatherland." But many people call it by the name of its author: Polonaise Oginski.

I suggest you listen to the polonaise. It is well-known in many European countries.

Here Polonaise played on the organ

Now you will hear Polonaise in Belarusian language.

Castle in Kosava

Kosava is a small town in the western part of Belarus. Only 2,300 people live in this city. But this town is known throughout the country because there is a beautiful castle

Kosava castle belonged Casimir Puslovsky. The building was built in 1838. The large garden has been around the castle.

There are 12 towers in the castle. Each tower symbolizes the month of the year. 132 rooms were in the castle. The sun illuminates a room for 2, 5 days.

The castle was Black and White Rooms. They were decorated with black and white marble. In the Black Room the hosts and guests of the castle played cards and  in the White Room they drank tea.

Very unusual floor was in the castle. It was made of a durable double-glazed. Fish swam between glasses and a pair of dancing people literally walked on water!!!

The last owner of the castle loved to surprise people, she often invited many guests to the castle. One summer, she was bored and she wanted to make a Christmas. When the guests arrived at the castle, they were surprised that there was snow around the castle and the hostess greets guests in a sleigh!!!

How was it done? The hostess told to scatter salt around the castle. And people in July toboggan on salt.

Partisans burned castle during World War II. They feared that the Nazis could ambush in the castle. So beauty of the castle was almost completely destroyed. Now people in Belarus are raising money for the restoration of Kosovo's castle. I hope you will ever see this castle in his greatness.

Vetka: wooden lace

Vetka town grew on the site of the settlement of Russian Old Believers. From Russia they brought their beliefs, their way of life, their traditions and their skills. Vetka is famous for its craftsmen now. Wood carving is particularly well known.

Yesterday I was in the thread (I used to take pupils to another school to the Olympics for Russian language). This school is located far enough away from the town center. So I went for a long time (25 minutes).

Very clear and cold day was yesterday. The grass was covered with frost, and the puddles were frozen. But the snow has not dropped yet. The sky was blue, the sun was shining and I was walking the streets of this amazing town. I walked the streets, looking at the threads on the beautiful wood carvings on houses.

I decided to show you how people decorate their homes. Incidentally, only Vetka  (and Gomel) is known for bright colors. You will not see these colorful houses in other parts of Belarus.

Let's look at home in the Vetka. How beautiful wooden lace on them!

Belarusian New Year Cards 2

Yesterday I was at the post office. I wanted to buy newspapers. At the post office there was a lot of people (in Belarus post offices give older people retire), and grandparents were waiting for their turn.

I stood against the wall and saw many beautiful new cards for the New Year. My mood became very good. I remembered that only one month left before the Christmas holidays. Christmas lights will illuminate Gomel soon, people bought up Christmas gifts.

I asked the cashier to sell me a few Christmas cards. I decided to give them to my pupils, their parents, my colleagues in the school. I bought only 13 cards (for parents). Tomorrow I'll take the cards for  my pupils and teachers.

We are often on the phone to congratulate your friends, but we have forgotten that wish, written by human hand, contains a much more pleasant emotions than copied text SMS.

Let's give each other cards! Let's share a good mood! Let's wish each other only the good!

Gomel at night

In autumn and winter every morning I go out when it's still very dark. The bus takes me through the streets, which are illuminated with lanterns. n autumn and winter I get home  when the lights illuminate my city again. There are many beautiful Gomel streets at night.

I invite you to walk in the evening city. In the evening Gomel is enigmatic and mysterious. He is transformed as by enchantment.

How this blog was created or Indifference of Belarusians

The idea to write this post occurred to me after reading an article in one of the online portals of Belarus. The article says that the researchers looked at what most indifferent people in the world. And Belarus (Russia and Ukraine) took third place. You know, I agree with this statement. I often see that people do not pay attention to their neighbors, co-workers.
I can give you a few examples.

If a pregnant woman is in the bus, most of the passengers immediately close eyes (they "sleep") or a hard stare at the screens of mobile phones.

If you need to help an old man out of transport, not all young people agree to help.

January 26 this year, the usual morning began for me. But after an hour morning became horrible. The day was very cold, the road  was slippery beneath my feet. At the bus stop I was waiting for transport. When I walked in the bus, I slipped, fell and badly bruised my lag on the step the bus. My bag was opened and notebooks were scattered on the steps. Some of them fell into the snow. I could not stand myself.

At this time, I heard laughter behind me: two young men laughed at me. Other people were in the bus. No one helped me up. I got myself. I packed notebooks. In the bus I was near the rail and held on to it the whole trip, because I was afraid to fall again. Not one person asked me to sit down (people saw that I was in a bad way).

I went to the doctor. She examined me and said that I just fell. Every day, I was more and more difficult to walk.

As a result, I have had several operations on my leg. For over a month, I could not walk. And at this time, I decided to create this blog. Therefore misfortune helped me and I found many new friends in different states.)))

But indifference is a very scary character trait Belarusian. A year ago I taught the children and I could see through the window a terrible picture. Two young men were beaten third down. Children anxiously looked out the window. I ran out to the porch and chased men. I said that I will tell the police. At the same time, another teacher was in the next room. I asked the teacher why he had not responded to the beating of man. And got a terrible answer: "It's not my business." I do not understand this position.
There is an anecdote about Belarusians.
Russian, Ukrainian and Belarusian were invited to the concert. They sat down on the chairs. In the seat of each chair was driven sharp nail. Russian sat down, then got up, rebuked the government and left the hall. Ukrainian sat down, then stood up, he took a nail and put it in his pocket. Belarusian sat down. He felt a sharp nail and tried to get up. Then Belarusian thought, "Maybe everything is as it should be?" He remained seated.
We are what we are. We do not pay attention to the circumstances. And that's why we have so many problems.

But there are very hospitable and kind. I went home today by the bus. An elderly woman was looking for the way to the hospital. All passengers kindly explain to the woman how to get to the hospital. Maybe Belarusians still have a chance?
The worst sin towards our fellow creatures is not to hate them, but to be indifferent to them; that's the essence of inhumanity. (George Bernard Shaw)

Navabelitsa is the Belarusian Vatican

I want to tell you about the amazing town Navabelitsa. You will not find this town on any map. But there it is, people live and work in it, the children go to school, they watch new movies in the cinema, go shopping in stores.
At the entrance to Navabelitsa
Navabelitsa is part of Gomel for over a hundred years. But residents still say they live in another city, not in Gomel.
Сoat of arms
In 1777, on the site of the city only a few people lived. Russian Count Rumyantsev, who owned Gomel, did not want to share it with the city officials. He ordered the construction of a new city to manage its lands across the river Sozh. And there was a city called New Belitsa. In this city lived less people than in Gomel, but New Belitsa ran Gomel. Soon a new city received its coat of arms: a golden lynx on a blue background.

Salad "Olivier"

This salad is an integral part of the Belarusian New Year's table since the Soviet era.
It has been known since the 19th century. Its author was a chef  Lucien Olivier. He has worked in the best restaurant in Moscow. Salad quickly became popular among restaurant guests.

Recipe has changed several times during the century and a half. Originally salad ingredients were 2 grouse, veaickles, soy, half a tin of Kabul, two fresh cucumber, a quarter pound of capers, 5 hard-boiled eggs.

In the era of the Soviet Union, a set of salad ingredients has undergone significant changes. there are only 7 components. It is in this form, this salad has become a favorite holiday table decoration. Salad "Olivier", many associated with the New Year. Because more often than women did this salad just for New Year's table (in Soviet times it was hard to buy the most important ingredient in salad - canned green peas. It sold just before the New Year).

New Metro Station in Minsk

11/06/2012 in Minsk were opened three new underground stations. Yesterday I was in Minsk, and, of course, visited these stations. I liked them. Unfortunately, subway can not be photographed, so I took the photos from: http://www.minsk-metro.net and belta.by. Take a look at all the pictures and you'll see the most beautiful station!
Now more. These three stations continued the "Moscow underground line". Here is a schematic. (№№113, 112; and 111 is the most beautiful!!!).

It was very convenient to watch these stations because they are located side by side.

First I got to the station "Грушаўка" (113) (Hru'shauka - "Peach" village)

National flavor

Today I invite you to see an ad of Belarusian kvas. Kvas is a national drink, it is made out of bread.

I liked the ad. There are several reasons for this.
1. You will hear the words of the Belarusian language. Scientists say that my language is second in the world for its beauty.
2. You will hear a Belarusian folk music.
3. All advertising performed in a special way.All the heroes lined with straw. Inlay is an ancient art of straw Slavs. And the ad gives a complete concept, as it looks like. I love products with inlays.. They look very elegant, beautiful, and they convey  a national flavor.

This advertising also has a national flavor. Enjoy it!

Text ads: "Since ancient times, the real treasures come to the people. Black is our land, and the gold is wheat on it. From wheat people make bread. Also, people make kvas. "Starazhytny" (ancient). So it should be".

Top 10 most recognized brands in Belarus

In Belarus, there are a number of brands that they know people from other countries. So today I decided to compile a list of brands in Belarus.

1. "Milavitsa". Lingerie "Milavitsa" - one of the few consumer products with the label "made in Belarus", which Belarusians can be proud of.

When I talk to foreigners, the first word after "Lukashenko" is exactly "Milavitsa". If you type the word into Google, you'll see a lot of beautiful girls in lingerie ))))) Try it!! ))

Dzyady

At the beginning of November, the Belarusians have the week commemoration of ancestors. It's called Dzyady. The official Belarusian calendar this holiday is celebrated on November 2, but in different parts of my country and it is celebrated on different days.

What is this holiday?

As I wrote, this holiday has no definite date for Orthodox believers. The holiday was still a pagan times. Then, it was believed that in the first week of November, the ancestral spirits come into our world. People tried to appease the spirits.

Dziady different from Halloween. Belarusians believe that the spirits of the ancestors are always kind and rarely get angry. Therefore you should not make noise, fun and laughter. When the whole family was sitting at the banquet table, people can not talk loudly, waving, laughing. People did not use a knife, they broke bread with  hands.

During the holiday hostess prepared an odd number of meals (5, 7, 9) for dinner. The main dmeal is still considered kutya. This is a sweet porridge. It is brewed from semolina or rice. Hostess adds a lot of sugar, raisins, small candies in kutya. Each member of the family must to eat this porridge, and only then he can eat other meals. The special plate is on the table. People put every particle of cooking in it for spirits.

After the end of dinner plates of food were not cleaned. People believed that the spirits of the ancestors will come at night and sit at the banquet table.

On Saturday, people must come to the cemetery and light a memorial candle at the grave of each ancestor.

Nyamiha it is vanished river

River with interesting fate is in Minsk, you will not find it on a map, but any resident of Minsk show you a place where it flowed many years ago.

Part of the city of Minsk is called Nyamiha (rus. Nemiga). Why do they call it?

In ancient times, there was a river of that name. Nyamiha word means "sleepless." The river was divided into two arms and flowed ancient Minsk.

In 1067 took place on Nyamiha great battle that went all the chronicles of the time. It is mentioned in the monument of ancient literature - "The Song of Igor's Campaign, Igor son of Svyatoslav and grandson of Oleg." Here is an excerpt of this masterpiece of ancient Slavic literature (translated by V. Nabokov)

On the Nemiga the spread sheaves are heads,
the flails that threshare of steel,
lives are laid out on the threshing floor,

souls are winnowed from bodies.
Nemiga’s gory banks are not sowed
goodly-sown with the bones of Russia’s sons.

Nyamiha shoaled to the 19th century and was more like a stream. This stream flowed down the street, which also became known as Nyamiha, too. On rainy days, the stream was filled with water and the waves splashing on the walls of houses. Therefore, people have built over the creek wood flooring for the whole street. But the water is still rising higher and the houses were in the water.
 Wood flooring over Nyamiha river

In 1926, the people have made out wood flooring and for all hid the river Nyamiha. The lower part of the river they made a concrete collector, and then put the cobblestone pavement.
One part of the river was put into a pipe in 1926
The upper part of the river disappeared in 1955. Since Nemiga gone down in history.

But the river was not lost at all - it flows under the city for concrete pipes. Diggers love to explore Nyamiha, they photographed the river. And on rainy days Nyamiha street often goes under the water: so the river rises again to the surface. Nyamiha say: "I'm not die, I'm going back again and again".
