Belarus: how to travel by train (part 1)

Very often, foreign tourists have problems with the trip to Belarus. These problems associated with transport. You should know that buy a ticket from one city to another is not always easy. If I plan to go to another city, I'm buying a ticket in advance (2-3 weeks). Otherwise, you can not take the train and see the sights of the city.
The second problem: 99% of the cashiers do not speak English. Even if you write a text on paper and give the cashier to read - this will not solve the problem. You must describe your route, specify all types of transplants (if you are planning).
Therefore, when planning an individual trip to Belarus, you should plan your route and allow it All sorts of contingencies.
I'll leave a link to the website of the Belarusian Railways. This site has an English version, but it does not schedule trains.
So I'll show you how to use the Russian version of the site.

First you choose the type of trains: passenger or commuter. Passenger trains run faster, they are more comfortable. Commuter trains go slow, stop often, they are very uncomfortable. Therefore, I suggest you choose a passenger train.

Here is the image of clock. Near the first clock there is a link to the timetable of passenger trains (they are faster). Near the second clock there is a link to the schedule of commuter trains (they are slower).

Following the link brings you to this page. Here you must specify the departure station and arrival station, date and time of departure.

Unofficial Anthem of Belarus

So say many Belarusians.

In 1912, Belarusian poet Yanka Kupala wrote a poem entitled "My Prayer." In 1994, the first time on the Belarusian stage sounded song "The Prayer" performed by the Belarusian band "Pesnyary." The song immediately became a cult. In another way, and could not be: a work of genius of the poet was set to music and flawlessly executed. The song "The Prayer" is considered the unofficial anthem of my country and it is often performed on views presentation, on the stages in various parts of Belarus.

This is a really strong song. I played this song at the contest "Teacher of the Year" in 2011. When I listen to it, tears flowing from my eyes. And if you want to know the soul and mind Belarusians, you should listen to this song.

I will pray with the heart and thoughts
I will pray with my soul
For the black problems, and a blizzard
Never wailed over my native land.
Chorus: I pray to heaven, earth and space
I pray to to Almighty God and the Universe
In any situation at any time
For the native people of Belarus

My favorite cartoon

My favorite cartoon is "There was a dog."

I remember and I love this cartoon from my childhood. The plot is based on Ukrainian folk tale: the host expels an old dog of the house, the poor animal goes into the woods ... And the fun begins!

You can watch this cartoon in Youtube and here.

People of the Soviet Union were dismantled in the cartoon quotes, cartoon became very popular. Now you will not find a man who would not know a nice and quick-witted wolf and a good old dog.

Restaurant "Izba" in Mogilev

This institution belongs to the category of "come, drink vodka and left." :(((

Design of the restaurant is based on the Belarusian-Russian style: if you get there, you'll see the wooden benches, massive tables, log walls, small windows.

Windows painted with colors. In one window drop gay revelers in another window looking horse.

On the walls hang linen shirt, the ceiling is also quite beautiful.

But individually, I want to tell you about the menu. I am a teacher and I can not go past this ugliness. The menu text is written with terrible errors. These errors interfere with reading the text, they always catch the eye. At first I thought it was part of the overall style of the restaurant, but the error is so rude and stupid that I have changed my opinion. The man who was the text of the menu, did not speak Russian. I would forgive such errors, for example, in the English language. But most visitors to the restaurant they say in Russian, but now such a shame!

I do not advise you to visit such places. Also, I read the reviews on the site of other visitors to this restaurant. We all think this way: if you want to drink lots of vodka, you can safely go to this restaurant. If you want to relax and unwind, you can not go to the "Izba"!

Cafe "Offline" in Mogilev

I want to tell you about the best cafe in Mogilev. It is situated in the heart of the city. His address: Lenin street, house 30. Cafe Hours: 8.00 - 23.00. Site: http://offlinecafe.by/

I went into this cafe by accident. Looking for a place where we could eat. I do not like restaurants (in our country people drink a lot of alcohol), I love the little cafe, where a special atmosphere.

Kobryn - 725!!!

In my hometown there is a holiday today and tomorrow. Kobryn is celebrating a birthday. In 1287 my city was first mentioned in chronicles.

Happy Birthday, Kobryn!

Friday, 20 July 2012

Last weekend I visited the Mogilev. Is a city in eastern Belarus, about 76 km from the border with Russia's Smolensk Oblast and 105 km from the border with Russia's Bryansk Oblast. As of 2011, its population was 360,918.[1] It is the administrative centre of Mogilev Region and the third largest city in Belarus.

I came to town early in the morning. At first, I decided to leave the store my belongings. I had to wait about half an hour. because the luggage compartment was closed. The duty officer at the station told me that it happens very rarely, and I just had no luck. But the first impression was a bit spoiled. There are coffee machines at the station where tourists can buy a coffee. In a small canteen you can buy chips and beer. I also saw some old chops. That often happens at the stations: people buy beer and don't care that they will eat.

By the way, a statue of the railroad employee standing at the entrance to the station. Behind him on the wall strengthened the symbolic bell. It is possible to ring.

Cucumber Capital of Belarus

In our country there is a very interesting village. It differs from all other settlements in Belarus. This village is called Alshany (Olshany). She is famous for ... cucumbers.

In this village near every house is a huge greenhouse, which is grown cucumbers. This is practically the only thing the local population, which brought the treasure to the villagers.

Olshany famous for its strong economy, and people buy expensive cars, build a large modern private houses. If a girl borns in the family, the happy father builds a big house for her. By the way, Olshany have a very large family in which 5 or more children.

Of course, the wealth does not appear out of nowhere. All the villagers are working from morning till night in greenhouses. Cucumbers are beginning to be planted in early spring, and in May, has already collected the first harvest. This continues until late autumn. Near the village there is a market where they sell only the cucumbers. Many families have their own trailers, which cucumbers are transported across the country. A lot of Russians coming to Olshany. It is very favorable conditions and low prices for them.

Dounpour in Gomel. NEW!!!!

In Gomel, 4 hours ago was a tropical downpour. Streets in the heart of the city were flooded. Transportation was paralyzed. Rescuers transported people from the bus to the bus stop by the boat. The people endured children on the hands, the drivers help each other. Only one driver decided to drive a public taxi through a flooded section of the street. He succeeded, but the other drivers decided not to risk it.
Not far from my house the water flooded the streets, too. People waded knee-deep in water, they helped sneak machines "emergency".

Heat in Belarus

This week in Belarus established the unusual weather for our country. The day temperature 33 - 35 Celsius. This is despite the fact that the usual summer temperature does not exceed 30. On the street during the day can not go, the scorching sun burns its rays. Only in the early morning or evening, as now, you can walk along the paths or sit in the park.

Worst of all older people feel. They raised davvlenie and heart pains. At the beach a lot of people are sunbathing and swimming. This is the only way out. In most houses of the Belarusian people do not have air conditioning and the windows are hung wet sheets or towels. My parents also did not have a built in air conditioning. They bought a small fan, which saves a bit of heat. But if the hours per day to use ketim air conditioning, then we have a lot to pay for electricity. So the only way out is always the same sheet, frequent showers, cool water and fan.

OK, that heat will subside next week!

People say that on the night of 6 July 7 animals and trees could talk to each other. For many centuries this night is magical. This is called a midsummer night or the night of Ivan Kupala. This celebration is traditional, not only for Belarus. It is celebrated in the Ukraine, the Baltics, Russia.

Independence Day (continue)

How this event is taking place in Belarus?  Probably the same as in other states.
It all starts in a few days before the celebration. First held a parade rehearsal. From across the country are delivered  a military equipment and the best soldiers.
Evening of July 2 at the main monument of the country (on Victory Square in Minsk) is laying a wreath to the fallen soldiers. In a solemn and a little sad situation is this ceremony. Veterans sit on the chairs (they are already very old and can not long stand on its own).

Independence Day

Today my country is celebrating the most important holiday - Independence Day. This holiday is celebrated annually on July 3. But not always, Independence Day was celebrated on this day.

Since 1991, Independence Day was celebrated on July 27, the day of the Declaration of Sovereignty of Belarus.

The decision to celebrate Independence Day on July 3, the day of liberation of Minsk from the Nazis, was taken during the national referendum in 1996.

Personally, I do not think it was the right decision: the history of the state begins with the signing of the Declaration of Independence. But in fixing the date of the holiday, as always happens, politics intervened: it was in 1996 in this country had a crisis of power: the deputies fought for power with the president. And on that ill-fated referendum, people voted not for some issues, but "yes" or "against" individuals. MPs offered to celebrate Independence Day July 27 (as it was from 1991 to 1996), and the president argued that the date of the holiday should choose a day when Soviet troops entered the city of Minsk (July 3). Since people voted "for the president," the date of the holiday was changed.

Thus liberated Minsk became a symbol of an independent state.

A bit funny

Hockey team of the President of Belarus won the final of the European Football Championship.

from the forum:
how to live in Belarus, if the monthly feed one dog MIA costs 792,030 rubles, and the monthly child allowance is 743,020 rubles.
PS These are absolutely real.

This year Belarus has provided the Litesound on the "Eurovision" . The next year is expected the full version.

- In our country drink only aristocrats.
- Why?
- Yesterday, at the entrance alcoholics greeted us: "Our compliments, gentlemen"

audacity - the second happiness! Belarus still has a loan from Greece!
