25 years ago, the Supreme Council of the BSSR adopted the Declaration of State Sovereignty of Belarus. This document is the first official step towards the independence of Belarus, and this day, July 27 has been declared the country's Independence Day. According to the Declaration, Belarus was proclaimed a sovereign state, which is based on self-determination and statehood of the Belarusian language, the rule of the people to determine their destiny.
August 25, 1991 Declaration of State Sovereignty has received the status of a constitutional law on the basis of which changes were made to the Constitution in 1978. The new Constitution was adopted March 15, 1994.
The celebration was canceled after the referendum, 1996. Independence Day is now celebrated on the day of liberation of Minsk from the Nazi invaders on July 3. But I think that we should not forget such an important date in the history of the country. So today I am celebrating. I'm sitting with a cup of tea and sweet cakes and am writing this post.
